Brake discs and pads - the basis of the braking system


The brake discs are often shaped like metal discs and manufactured on precise machines using special metal alloys. Such things are necessary because of the working environment in which they are created - they can easily heat up to a temperature of up to 500°C and withstand very heavy loads. To save the discs from wearing down too quickly, they must be made of durable materials. 


Most often, brake pads comprise several layers: a carrier plate, a layer corresponding to vibration damping and calliper protection against high temperatures, and a friction material that rubs against the disc surface. 


When should brake discs and pads be replaced?

What is the running-in of new brake discs and pads?


The running-in is the last stage of replacing and/or repairing the brake system. Before that, eliminate any corrosion and contamination from the yoke, hub and clamps. Next, you should check the washing conditions of the pistons, seals and the brake fluid's condition. After checking all the aspects mentioned above, we can start lapping new brake discs and pads.


Such a process consists of depositing the so-called "Film", that is, a thin layer of material. During such a process, the friction elements can adapt to the working conditions, i.e.the driver's driving style.
